National Fraternity HistoryIn Washington, DC, in October 1986, three elderly gentlemen established a trust to create a social fraternity that wouldn't discriminate based on sexual orientation; the donors regretted such an alternative organization did not exist during their formative years. As Trustee, Vernon L. Strickland, III, administered the founding of Delta Lambda Phi National Social Fraternity, creating its crest, selecting its mascot and designing its rituals. In April 1987, Strickland initiated 24 men into the Fraternity's Alpha Chapter-Delta Lambda Phi was born. Since then, Delta Lambda Phi, a fraternity for gay, bisexual and progressive men, has become one of the country's fastest growing fraternities with chapters from coast to coast. The Beta Eta Chapter began its chartering journey in April of 2003 and into the Fall of 2004. The first progressive fraternity of its type in Colorado, the CU colony started strong with the Alpha Pledge Class. The chartering process proved long and tiresome but overwhelmingly rewarding. Throughout the time trials and tribulations proved hard to overcome, but the colony endeavored to challenge itself and grow in the bond through each successive day. The CU Colony received its Charter and position as the Beta Eta Chapter of Delta Lambda Phi National Social Fraternity in the Spring of 2005. The Chapter continues today in their pursuit of the best friendships through meaningful service, fundraising, and most importantly, by spending time with those they call their Brothers. |
