Meet the Brothers of Beta Xi!
A superstar neuroscience major, Dylan works at a neuroscience lab at NYU that investigates the role of the amygdala in fear conditioning experiments involving memory blocking drugs. Besides that and his computer science minor, Dylan’s just a fun guy trying to hang.
Dylan can commonly be found making his way downtown, especially if there’s food at the end of the journey. His favorite color is yellow and he and his fraternal (OO!) twin share a birthday with Harry Potter! He’d have dinner with Sky Ferreira and his favorite cultural icon is Lady Gaga.
Dylan is an amazing friend and soul, a wonderful leader, always ready with a pun!
When he’s not busy with his Biology major and Chemistry minor, or helping the community by planning service events, Louis likes to play video games and read. And sleep. A lot. He can often be found in his bed! If he could have dinner with anyone it would be Amy Winehouse, and his favorite cultural icon is Sailor Moon, since she’s a “strong feminist icon for the young boys and girls.” He loves the color green and he can actually put his whole fist in his mouth. Oh my. Louis can read them all and make you feel important all at the same time.
While he’s not studying “How and Why Humans are What They Are,” Jake’s probably reading 20th century anthropological novels or playing video games. More likely, he’s actually drinking wine with his dog or watching Moody’s Point over and over, commonly with his little, Kevin. His favorite color, is not just blue, no no–it’s midnight blue. Very mysterious, yeah? Little do people know that he worked in a McDonald’s for two years (thank you for serving our country, Jake)! He can commonly be found lost in the remote wilderness of Brooklyn. If Jake could have dinner with one person, it would be Charles Darwin or Grant Gustin. However, his favorite cultural icon is Viola Davis! Not only is Jake DLP’s designated hottie with a body, he is a wonderful soul with a lot of love and wit to give the world.
While he’s very busy with his Psephology & Narrative (he says ‘because anything with “narrative” in its title could count as a Gallatin Concentration’), Ivan also finds time to study or read about politics and history. If he’s not doing that, he’s probably waiting for the next season of House of Cards (CMON, NETFLIX!). Ivan’s favorite color is the 51’st shade of gray. He can commonly be found in libraries, since he loves them so much. Ivan also loves baking vegan desserts. If he could have dinner with one person it is no doubt Alton Brown. He think he might be able to get some cooking tricks in there. His favorite cultural icons are the Kardashians, ‘nuff said. Ivan is a great guy who makes everyone feel loved and important, and he doesn’t let anyone forget that they’re valuable.
Reece is majoring in Finance and Management, and with that at his helm he attends NYU (gasp!!) and tries to make a comfortable living for his ‘angsty self.’ Really, the finance major in Reece shines as he says he is going on dates with boys so he can eat because they pay for his dinner. Reece’s favorite color is green, and little known fact about Reece is that if you pet his head, he purrs! Reece can be found often in Queens. If Reece could have dinner with anyone, it would be Colton Haynes. He’d pray that Colton would like him enough to get dessert. Reece’s favorite cultural icon, however, is Kathy Bates, with all her various cats. Reece is known for his infectious laugh and big heart, and is always there as a support system with some wise words.
Max is a Cinema Studies major at Tisch, minoring in business. (Whose business ??). Max pretty much spends his time watching reruns of Sex and the City on Oxygen, but if you really want to know he spends a lot of time spending all nighters at Bobst and reading celebrity tell-all memoirs (THEIR business!). Max can recite the entire script of Showgirls (1995, no lie). His favorite color is scarlet, and he can commonly be found at the 8th street Fresh and Co. or one of NYC’s various movie theaters. Max would have dinner with Wendy Williams because she knows how to have fun, and she makes Max laugh and can throw shade like no other! His favorite cultural icon, though, is Naomi Campbell. Max is a tall, wonderful addition to DLP with his quick humor and big heart.
Li-Hsueh Lu (Xi-Newman Class)
Stern School of Business, Marketing
DLP’s official and self designated “bitter old queen,” Li Lu has spent four years in our organization in multiple roles, including being our former President. In the midst of Li Lu’s Marketing and Management Major, Li Lu spends time judging others, both silently and audibly. Using their French minor, it’s doubly dangerous. It can actually be said that Li Lu didn’t know about their ‘resting bitch face’ up until quite recently! *gasp* Commonly found anywhere there is food, Li Lu would appropriately have dinner with Joan Rivers above all others. That doesn’t stop Hayao Miyazaki or Margaret Cho from being Li Lu’s favorite cultural icons, too, though. Li Lu may have words built like razor blades but we know Li Lu for his kind heart, caring soul and restless ambition.
Aaron’s a psychology major in CAS, and he’s considering shipping himself off to medical school. While that sounds like a lot of work, he’s probably watching Netflix, going out with friends or paying too much attention to what he’s wearing. His favorite color is red, “ALWAYS RED.” He can commonly be found shopping at clothing stores. If he could have dinner with one person it would be Emma Stone, and his favorite icon is Christian Louboutin! Aaron is a wonderful spirit with a great sense of style.
Michael Lew (Phi Class)
College of Arts and Sciences , Media and Communications
Stephan Steven Drabeck (Xi-Newman Class)
Gallatin School of Individualized Studies, Concentration in Documentary Filmmaking for Human Rights & Social Activism
Steven is from the quaint hills of Los Feliz Village, Los Angeles, CA, commonly referred to as the only cogent community in Los Angeles. The artsy, bohemian, and esoteric being his forte, in Los Angeles, where he had space to spare, a car to get to get to a Whole Foods, and a dishwasher, he enjoyed experimenting with vegan & gluten-free baking and cooking; buying hemp hand soap; trying on handmade LA-sourced clothes; browsing local artists’ work; shopping at organic locally-grown farmer’s markets; and a multitude of other indie activities. When he isn’t eulogizing Fiona Apple’s “Jonathan,” picking out a bow-tie, ruminating on purposely heart-wrenching poetry, or otherwise blowing to proportions the learning of human persuasion, he’s most probably dreaming of the hillside enclaves, hole-in-walls, and the contours of the majestic wide streets of a glistening Los Angeles…
Austin Galoob (Omicron Class)
Gallatin School of Individualized Studies, Concentration in “The Performance of Media & Power”
Austin is a freshman in the Gallatin School of Individualized Study officially studying Public Policy and Conflict Resolution through the Arts. Unofficially, he is studying the art of being fabulous. Austin enjoys casual walks through the Park, random outbursts of Beyonce, and endless amounts of coffee. Despite his fierce demeanor Austin is friendly, fun, and energetic.
Sam is a small town boy from rural Athens, Pennsylvania. He is a freshman acting student in Tisch at the Meisner Studio. In his free time, he enjoys video games, TV, and reading terrible books. He has an almost obsessive love of The Simpsons and enjoys singing and dancing even though he is terrible at both. He often goes on long walks through Midtown and pretends he is Kurt Hummel. He once starred in a no-budget horror film.
Bobby grew up in Cleveland, Ohio but knows that he belongs in NYC. Bobby is an avid lover of technology and can usually be found browsing tech news on his phone or laptop. In his spare time, Bobby loves running and plans to run a half marathon by the end of 2013. Future goals include making it big in either broadcast journalism or the political sphere, so look out for him on CNN!
Geoffrey is from the heart of Hong Kong but was born from the heart of New York City, getting the best from both international worlds. He studies Nutrition and Dietetics and plans to minor in Performance Studies. You can probably find him working at a cafe or Broadway Dance Center because his favorite passions are both food service and dance. He’s a super fun guy and will be ever so friendly if you approach him!
Austin is a senior studying French and Spanish & Linguistics, which people always think is three majors (although it’s only two). He narrowly escaped the Toledo suburb of Sylvania, Ohio, and is now in a love/hate relationship with New York City. Among other things, interests include languages and linguistics, spicy food, social justice, naps, crochet, outdoors, scary movies, documentaries, cute puppies, and social media. #ShyButInterested

Andy is a senior studying English Literature with a double-minor in Urban Education & Social Entrepreneurship. Though he’s originally from Sarasota, Florida (45 minutes south of where Magic Mike happened), Andy loathes sunlight and the ocean and would prefer his future to be located in the city with a nice man and a cat. A Gates Millennium Scholar and a Teach for America Rising Leaders Fellow, Andy is also a Junior Program Director for College For Every Student – he aspires to work in education one day and make a difference in the lives of our nation’s students. In his spare time, Andy indulges in anything on Bravo, dancing like Beyonce, and staring at the basics in Bobst.
Lyle Yap (Pi-Case Class)
College of Arts and Sciences, B.A. in Biology
Her name is Ming, and she isn’t shy.
Mothaaaaa has arrived
Beta-Xi’s link to the twink community/a 24″ waistline every biddy wishes she had.
Yves is a sophomore studying German and public health, and doing a pre-dental track. Raised in Brooklyn, NY, he loves hunting for good restaurants around the city. His favorite hobbies are to travel, read, and learn about new cultures.
Dorian hails from dat one part of Jersey that isn’t filled with toxic waste and fist-pumping. Studying the least business-like concentration in business school, he simply hopes to become a successful change-maker. When he’s not daydreaming about transferring into Gallatin, you can find him on his yoga mat, in the kitchen cooking/baking/Instagram-ing, or in front the mirror jammin’ to some Bey. Dorian hopes to one day return to the dirty Jerz and help others find wellness of the mind, body, and soul.
Andrew Favorito (Omicron Class)
Gallatin School of Individualized Studies, Concentration in Gay Studies, Fashion & Communications
A native of legit Boston, Andrew is a student at NYU Gallatin. He apologizes for his RBF but is actually #sorrynotreallysorry. An avid Pino Grigio drinker and Marlboro Light chain-smoker, he is also a fan of David Sedaris literature, the Golden Girls and leopard print, and you can usually find him listening to Lil’ Kim on repeat. He is currently interning in the PR department of Theory while simultaneously searching for a husband in either the investment banking or medical fields.
New Jersey. That is all.
Mike Broschart was the Co-Historian of Delta Lambda Phi Beta Xi Chapter. Throughout his academic career Mike has studied abroad in two countries, spending a semester in Prague and a summer in Paris. While in Paris Mike participated in the NYU Writers in Paris Program where he studied under authors Jonathan Safran Foer and Darren Strauss. Currently Mike is working on his Honors Thesis in Sociology on the Professionalization of Child Care in the United States. He is currently preparing for the Fall, when he will be joining the 2011 Teach for America Corp in Providence, Rhode Island. He realizes that despite living in NYC he is seemingly drawn to living in cities that begin with the letter “P”…
Scott graduated with a Economics major and minors in Business and Spanish. Formerly the secretary of DLP and currently the treasurer. He is originally from Atlanta but is also an Air Force brat so he has moved around quite a bit. Scott spent his spring 2009 semester studying abroad in Madrid, which was a life-changing experience although he is happy to be back with his Brothers.
Eduardo (although he is known to the brotherhood as Eddie) is currently a senior in CAS studying art history and business. Originally from Queens, he now calls Wyomissing, Pennsylvania (birthplace of Taylor Swift) his home away from New York. He has just come back from an amazing semester abroad in London where he not only did ridiculously British things, but he waltzed through some of the world’s most prolific cities. He’s now ready to end his college career with a bang and looks forward to start the journey that will (hopefully) land him on the top of the art world.
Joe Picini (Eta Martin Class)
Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, & Human Development, B.S. in Media, Culture and Communications; Creative Writing Minor
Joe was the former vice president and press secretary of the fraternity, previously holding the position of secretary in 2009. He was voted one of 2010’s “15 Most Influential Students of NYU” by the Washington Square News for his involvement in a variety of activities and organizations, mostly focused around LGBTQ activism. A passionate champion for equal rights, Joe spent this past winter break in the Dominican Republic learning about the LGBTQ Movement and Advocacy in the country as part of an Alternative Break and hopes that he can continue his involvement with social justice issues upon graduation on a more professional level.
Joe does not know what the future holds, but he is exploring Public Relations, Corporate Social Responsibility and non-profits as three fields of interest, currently interning at The Trevor Project in Development and working as an NYU Admissions Ambassador. Joe has previously interned at Della Femina as a copywriter for two consecutive summers and WWD Online as a Marketing Strategist. In addition to loving his boyfriend, bulldogs and glitter, Joe has, what he’s been told, a borderline unhealthy obsession with hair dye and Lady Gaga.
Ryan Rockmore (Zeta Class)
Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, B.Sc. in Spanish Education; Spanish Creative Writing Minor
Ryan is a senior in the Steinhardt School for Culture, and Human Development and the current president of the Beta Xi chapter, having previously been the Philanthropy and Service Chair. He is majoring in Spanish Education and also minoring in Creative Writing in Spanish. He has a passion for dance and is currently pursuing a career as a Flamenco dancer and apart from studying in Seville, Spain this past summer, he also recently joined the New York company of Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana. He studied abroad in Madrid during the Spring 2009 semester and had the most amazing time of his life! He is also a veteran Orientation Leader for Steinhardt orientations during the summer. Finally, he is also very passionate about volunteering and helps several organizations including GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) and The Trevor Project (a national 24/7 helpline for GLBTQ at-risk or suicidal youth) as a Lifeline Counselor. Looking forward to meeting you and helping the diversity of our fraternity grow here at NYU!
Chadly Stern (Eta Martin Class)
College of Arts and Sciences, B.A. in Psychology; Child and Adolescent Mental Health Studies Minor
Chadly is a senior in CAS majoring in psychology and is originally from Pennsylvania, right next to the Amish. He was in Florence last year and adored it greatly, but it’s good to be back in NYC. In his free time he enjoys going to cultural events and exhibits in the city, hitting up the many coffee shops, reading his favorite magazines, and watching hilarious television shows (e.g. 30 Rock and Family Guy).
Stephen Brown (Kappa Hall Class)
Gallatin School of Individualized Study, B.A. in Individualized Study (Comics)
Stephen graduated from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study concentrating in comics — just comics. He crawled out of Ypsilanti, Michigan and will rep the Mitten until the day he dies. When he’s not providing free labor to the publishing industry, he’s charitably editing some amazing publications on NYU’s campus, such as the Literacy Review. His biggest passions (aside from DLP, of course) are Project OutReach and the Admissions Ambassador program, both of which he has helped to coordinate. He does some other stuff too, but it’s not important.
Stephen is proud to have served DLP Beta Xi as both social chair and new member educator during his brief-but-amazing stint with the fraternity. In his precious few moments of free time, he enjoys reading comics, eating vegan food, being INTENSE, not drinking, Tweeting too much, looking at cute animals, and reading more comics.
James (Van) Van Sweringen (Iota Class)
College of Arts and Science
Van is a senior in the College of Arts and Science studying neural sciences and producing. Currently is President of DLP Beta Xi and is proud to have been the President of the Iota Class and served as sergeant at arms. Previously Van has interned at Baylor College of Medicine, where he co-authored Frontal and Temporal Lobe Involvement on Verbal Fluency Measures in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis which was published in Journal of Clinical and Experimental Neuropsychology. In addition to his passion for science, he regularly enjoys the theatre and is a Board Member and Technical Director in CAS Theatre Troupe at NYU.
Colin Brown (Kappa Hall Class)
Gallatin School of Individualized School
Colin is a senior and the little of Brother Joseph Picini.
Dylan Cole (Kappa Hall Class)
NYU Poly 2014, B.Sc. in Chemical & Biological Engineering
Loving the big city, Dylan is a friendly freshman attending Poly (that new NYU school in Brooklyn). Since he’s from Massachusetts, he calls a trash can a “barrel” and a drinking fountain a “bubbler”, which people find fascinating. He’s majoring in Chemical & Biological Engineering and is enrolled in the Honors Program, which he finds challenging but very rewarding. He is also the Sergeant of Arms of the fraternity, as well as the Historian. In his spare time, he loves to cook and volunteer whenever he can. He also has limitless knowledge of pop culture and useless trivia, which always gives him something to talk about. Dylan aspires to become a successful engineer for a major company some day, earning a lot of money to support his wonderful family. But until then he’ll keep on working hard, devote his heart to DLP, and listen to 80’s music with joy.
Joseph Santiago (Theta Class)
NYU Poly 2013
B.Sc. in Sustainable Urban Environments
Raised in Orlando, Florida, Joseph Santiago is a student at the Polytechnic institute of NYU. He’s currently studying Urban Environments with a minor in Business Technology. He hopes to land a job in the Public Transportation field or for an Urban Planning firm upon graduation. He has keen interests in auto racing, modern dance, and sustainable (green) initiatives, as well as Drum Corp activities. When he’s not jumbling a million things at once he likes to take time to read, draw or exercise. You would most likely find him at Bobst, out with friends or working at one of the many delicious restaurants in Brooklyn.
Gian Manalili (Theta Class)
Stern School of Business, B.Sc. in Accounting and Finance; Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology Minor
Gian Marco Manalili is currently a senior in the Stern School of Business majoring in Accounting and minoring in the Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology (to keep things interesting). Gian is a proud member of the DLP Theta class and acted as the chapter Secretary and New Member Educator in 2010. He is originally from River Edge, New Jersey (next to Paramus, the city with all those malls, and in the same county as the Real Housewives). Gian is also involved in NYU’s International Filipino Association and spends much of his time working at NYU ITS Finance. His biggest passions include purple clothing, overeating, and crappy reality shows.
Tom Masters (Mu Class)
College of Arts and Science
Tom is currently a junior at NYU studying economics and Italian studies with a minor in business. He spends a lot of his time volunteering with the LGBTQ community, stressing about school/work/life, and shopping for owl pillows to fill his apartment. His passions include Beyoncé, shoes, and international economies.
Anthony is a senior and is a very active brother and is the little of now alumnus Nathan Miller.
Michael Cavarretta (Kappa Hall Class)
Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, B.Sc. in Media, Culture and Communications with a Minor in Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology
Michael is a senior at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, majoring in Media, Culture, and Communications with a minor in the Business of Entertainment, Media, and Technology, a cross-school minor between Steinhardt, the Stern School of Business, and the Tisch School of the Arts. If you haven’t guessed by now, Michael has a devoted passion (some might say obsession) with all aspects of media and entertainment. He has been interning for a top entertainment PR firm this year and hopes to have a career in the industry someday. Michael is also a fabulously sassy Orientation Leader for Steinhardt during their summer orientations. In his free time, Michael enjoys tweeting excessively about his favorite subjects, the avante-garde, award-winning, life-changing television series Glee, and, of course, nearly any of the pop music divas. When not engaged with his significant other (Blackberry), Michael can be found usually wearing a fierce scarf and making endless pop culture references, including but not limited to all of Carrie Bradshaw’s embarrassingly bad puns from Sex and the City.
Originally from Dayton, OH, David had never been to New York City until he moved into his dorm and enjoys the change. In his free time David enjoys going to different rock shows, walking through Prospect Park, and biking.
Peter is a senior in CAS majoring in biology and on the pre-med track. He is originally from Pennsylvania an hour north of Philadelphia. Some of his interests include swimming, reading, chatting over coffee, and hanging out with brothers of DLP. You can always spot him at Third North Dining Hall by the wraps station or in Downstein watching The Nanny.
Simon Jimenez (Lambda Class)
College of Arts and Science, B.A. in English and Creative Writing
Simon was voted most likely to be homeless after graduation. He is half-Filipino, half-Canadian, and all-American. Any day that starts with black coffee and camel cigarettes is a good day. His favorite food is fried pork, and if there is no pork, a SlimFast will do.
It doesn’t take a genius to know who or what Jeffrey loves (Beyoncé, Beyoncé, oh and did I forget to mention, BEYONCÉ?). Other than his obvious obsession for Beyoncé, Jeffrey’s love for music and singing is palpable, as evidenced by his random outbursts of renditions and of Billboard knowledge. If it isn’t clear by now, Jeffrey aspires to one day work in the music business, because it is his passion and his greatest love of all (notice the pop reference). Not to mention he also claims to have multiple personalities, most notably Manåtee, his inner binge-eater.
Will is originally from Lubbock, TX (Yeehaw!). Despite his major, he is also on the pre-med track with hopes of going to medical school shortly after graduation. In the little spare time he has, you can probably find will playing a pick up game of volleyball in central park or Coles. If all else fails, look for the closest dance floor with country music and he’s sure to be two-steppin’ along!
College of Arts and Science, B.A. in Politics and Minors in Environmental Studies and HistoryBryan is a senior in the College of Arts and Science majoring in politics with minors in both Environmental Studies and History and originally from Oklahoma City, OK. As the Founder and President of the Quidditch at NYU, he enjoys all things Harry Potter and sports related (OKC Thunder to be exact). However when he’s not out of the Quidditch pitch catching the snitch, he enjoys keeping up with all things Game of Thrones, hanging in Washington Square Park, and Chipotle.
College of Arts and Science, B.A. in Politics and Public Policy
Tisch School of the Arts, BFA in Film and TV Production and English Literature with Minors in Business of Entertainment, Media and Technology, and Creative Writing.
Brad is from the thrilling suburb of Tigard, Oregon, commonly known as the Paris of the frontier. He enjoys partaking in activities such as reading stuff and writing some things and watching some Real Housewives. He longs to toil in Television and recently started interning at AMC because he’s a mad man (omg pun!), and clearly really clever…
Eric Limjoco (Nu Class)
College of Arts and Science, B.Sc. in Mathematics and Economics with Minors in Computer Science and American Sign Language.
Eric is originally from the suburbs of Southern California, where he went to a high school surrounded by fields of cows. Although he sometimes misses his bovine buddies in LA, he has since found a home in New York City. A math enthusiast, he is currently a teaching assistant at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences and an intern at Slader.com, a kickass website all about learning. He enjoys buffets, A&E’s Intervention, traveling, and walking down the street like he’s in a music video.
Better known as “Mikey”. He lives his life between NYC and Rockland County, NY. (Never heard of it? No one has apparently). He’s a quiet personality with a loud creative soul. Although visual arts will forever be his first love, he likes to flirt with writing and dancing on the side. And when he’s not serving DLP as their unofficial art director, he likes to take some quiet time for himself–watching, exploring and wondering about the world. And other times, spending quality time with his two white german shepherds and pug, his big Filipino family, and some good friends.
Clayton is a senior at the College of Arts and Science studying Psychology with minors in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and French. Being from New Orleans, Louisiana, Clayton has the glibness and charm of a sweet southern boy taking on the concrete jungle, but he’s also so French you can’t handle it. When he’s not just being Miley, you will most likely find him sitting in Madison Square Park or helping himself to a burrito in one of the many Chipotle’s the city has to offer. His many talents include singing, eating, and imitating many foreign accents and cartoon character voices. The rest of his life is dedicated to Louis Tomlinson.
