Job Summary
The communications director will lead the fraternity’s news reporting, public relations and internal communications work, while overseeing a team of content coordinators and interns. Serving as the fraternity’s managing editor, the director will work with stakeholders across the organization to identify stories that will reinforce DLP’s brand to potential new members and community members. Often working to short deadlines, the director must be skilled at managing multiple projects for a team all while ensuring stories are produced to a high standard. The communications director will also work collaboratively with the other directors in the Office of Marketing and Communications (MarComm) on a variety of projects.
Essential Job Functions
Identify potential story ideas and turn them into a published product, either by producing it themselves or by assigning it, all on deadline
Serve as the primary news editor for the team’s stories
Ensure all stories are properly researched with accurate sources
Have strong supervisory and leadership skills in order to lead, hire, develop, and oversee their communications team
Develop and manage a content calendar in collaboration with other MarComm directors, aligning with the CMO’s strategic vision
Manage the Centaur’s Yell email newsletter
Manage internal communications, including emails from fraternity leadership
Required Qualifications
Experience working on and managing news reporting projects on deadline
Excellent investigation, reporting, research and editing skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment in a remote, asynchronous setting
Preferred Qualifications
Multiple years of supervisory experience in a newsroom setting
Experience managing email newsletters
Reports to
Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
Supervises
Communication coordinators and communication interns
Expected Workload
5 - 10 hours per week on average
