The purpose of Delta Lambda Phi is threefold:
To develop dignified social, service, and recreational activities for all men, irrespective of sexual orientation or gender expression.
The Founder of Delta Lambda Phi, Vernon L. Strickland III, wanted to create a place in the fraternal system for gay, bisexual, and progressive men, because he believed gay men would benefit from a strict membership and platonic bonds outside of deviant activities. Like all fraternities, we exists for social reason, being a home and second family to those who cannot express themselves well in their own. However, we seek to assist the needs of the community and be the voice of a minority group found in every walks of life.
To lead in determining the rights and privileges of individuals in society.
A Lambda Man makes their presence known and is a friend to all. We must stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves. We demonstrate leadership by ensuring everybody is treated equally, without discrimination for any reason from our campus community to the people of our State. Our involvement in Long Beach ensures that it is a city for everybody, regardless how one came to be.
To present a strong and positive image with respect to the diversity of all individuals.
Discrimination comes in all shades, and promoting a positive image means to address any negative stereotypes about one’s color, gender, partner, or creed. Diversity needs recognition. A Lambda Man is never afraid to speak up for what is right and step outside their comfort zone to defend those rights. They educate themselves and respect those that are different from themselves. This knowledge is spread to those who meet a Lambda Man.
